Interactive Group Project

 

ASSIGNMENT: CHANGE EXISTING PROJECT TO MAKE IT INTERACTIVE FOR GROUPS

PROJECT TIME: 2 MONTHS

Using the Instructables project musical instrument using Arduino, our group decided to make an instrument inspired by The Blue Man Group.

Role: Project Manager

The process included:

  • Testing the efficiency of the hardware (Arduino, speakers, resistors, etc.)

  • Changing the code to accommodate the sensory lengths & troubleshooting soundscapes

  • Building the actual structure of “The Thuba”: sourcing materials, gaging placement of batteries, speakers, and Arduino parts

The “Thuba” creates an opportunity for interactive play with one or multiple players. The idea is to not only explore the sounds that are created by coming into the proximity of the device. The different sounds that emit at different distances are an unexpected element of enjoyment that encourages play whether with one person or four.
